As summer arrives Europe starts its annual concert season outdoors. Many venues have historic significance and are truly iconic. So if you are planning a European vacation this year read on for a few ideas on where to enjoy some culture under the stars.

Torre del Lago, Italy

Just a few miles from Florence, Italy is the grand Teatro dei Quattromila in the town of Torre del Lago. The open air theatre is the venue for the annual Puccini Festival which attracts thousands of visitors each year. So if you want some opera and hope to avoid the crowds in Verona check out Torre Del Lago.

Minack Theatre, Porthcurno, Cornwall

Just over 4 hours from London and a world away from the city is West Cornwall. The Minack Theatre is an open air setting perched on the clifftops near Lands End. With only the sea and cliffs for scenery there are some amazing performances here in summer in this unique theatre. In London Regents Park Open Air Theatre also has performances through the summer season.

Sala Montjuic, Barcelona

On summer nights in Barcelona one of the best places to go for some outdoor entertainment is Montjuic Castle. The grounds provide a stunning backdrop to film showings. From classic silent movies to indie films there’s a great atmosphere here in summer.

Interlaken, Switzerland

The William Tell open Air Theatre in Interlaken is a lovely setting for plays in summer. This theatre performs the legendary story of William Tell and with the scenery of the Jungfrau region in the background this is a magnificent place to absorb some local culture.
