Brisbane River and City, Australia

As Queensland’s main city Brisbane is within easy reach of many major attractions. It is a great city to explore and use as a base when visiting Australia too. So if you are thinking of going down under then read on to see why Brisbane should be on your itinerary.

It’s the River city

The River Brisbane flows through the city but to really experience the vibe you should check out the action on the water. You’ll find riverside bars and restaurants and lots of sporting activities too. Why not picnic at Kangaroo Point or take a river cruise to see the sights. And on the South Bank you’ll even find a beach to relax on. You’ll also find fine restaurants to dine out in and enjoy all the local produce.

There are amazing museums

Brisbane is full of interesting museums and galleries that are just waiting to be explored. Head to QAGOMA or the Queensland Art Gallery and Museum of Modern Art or spend time in the Queensland Museum of Science. Or just start by browsing in the many craft centres and art displays all over town.

Climb the Story Bridge

For a two and a half hour adventure head to the Story Bridge which spans the River Brisbane. From the 80 metre high summit you’ll get spectacular views of the Scenic Rim and across to Moreton Bay. This is a challenging climb but well worth the effort. And around the city you’ll find lots of good walking trails for something a little more on level ground.

Visit the Islands

Just off the coast of Brisbane are some lovely islands to get to know. On Moreton Island you’ll find a beautiful setting and be able to scuba dive. Spend a day chilling out on the beaches of North Stradbroke Island and getting to know the tiny villages. Or cross the bridge to Bribie Island for more sand and surf.

Morton Island

Enjoy the Green Spaces and wildlife

Brisbane has some lovely green spaces to visit. One of the most popular is the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. With over 130 koalas you can get close to these lovely animals and you’ll see kangaroos too. Spend time in Brisbane’s Epicurious Garden which grows organic food all year round. Or spend time walking in Samford or Mount Nebo with spectacular views and a country feel.

Brisbane has a lot of big attractions and is a very welcoming city. Make sure it gets on your itinerary when you plan your vacation in Australia.
